Small Engine Mechanic

Performs basic/semi-skilled diagnostic of both 2-stroke & 4-stroke small engine repair and maintenance on customer and/or dealer owned equipment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs general repair and preventive maintenance of small engines, automotive and construction equipment.
2. Makes diagnostic evaluations to determine mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic deficiencies of gasoline and diesel engines.
3. Maintains service records for all assigned equipment; and purchase items needed to make necessary repairs.
4. Makes budgetary recommendations for mechanical maintenance and repair operations; and assists with selecting and purchasing new or replacement operational equipment.
5. Performs grounds and other maintenance related duties as assigned, such as snow removal, mowing, pesticide application and assisting other team members.
6. Has daily means of transportation to and arriving to work in a timely manner when shop opens with sufficient notice if unable to be at work for any reason.
7. Participates in Service Eduation Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge
8. Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion
9. Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
10. Other duties as assigned

Required Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must obtain and maintain valid state commercial driver’s license, with appropriate endorsement.

Three years’ experience in small engine maintenance and repair or related field with references.
• 3+ years of experience performing service repairs
• Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures
• Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in the repair of agricultural and turf equipment
• Ability to use Service tools and basic computer functions
• Ability to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
• Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly
• Basic Service Technician certification preferred
• High School diploma or equivalent experience required; Associates degree preferred
• Valid driver’s license is required
• Forklift license preferred
• Works in environment inside and outside all temperatures
• Physical requirements other than lifting include bending, squatting, hand dexterity, climbing 6-25 feet
